Post- Week 1 Waiver Wire : Dak Prescott, Elijah Mitchell, Keenan Allen & Najee Harris Replacements9/12/2022 Julian Martinez: [00:00:12] Welcome in fantasy football owners exciting NFL week one in the books kind of I'm recording here before the Monday night football game so don't know the results of the Denver Broncos versus Seattle Seahawks, but I will only say that I assumed the Denver Broncos kicked the Seahawks ass. Let Russ Cook and it was a hell of a revenge game. But that's not why we're here to talk. We're here to help you build your fantasy football roster, help you navigate the waiver wire. And I think we should just get into it. A lot of big injuries in week one, unfortunately. Let's get to the quarterback position. The headliner is going to be Dak Prescott, who had a hand injury in the opening game against the Tampa Bay Bucs. He is going to be out 6 to 8 weeks and this injury usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks to really get into your previous playing shape. So expect Dak Prescott to have a few down weeks as he comes back. The first game to replace him is going to be Carson Wentz. I think this is a great short term and long term answer because in week two, Carson Wentz going against the Detroit Lions, the Lions got lit up by Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles in Week one. Speaking of lining up, Carson Wentz put up four touchdowns in week one and people love the clown on Carson. I get it. The punch lines are easy. 27 touchdowns, seven interceptions was the QB 13 in 2021. There's no reason this guy should be 3% own in fantasy. This is a guy that you immediately have to add on your roster, especially if you are just Dak Prescott because the floor isn't as steep as you think. The ceiling is a potential QB one at Carson Wentz. He has great chemistry with his wide receivers. He's in a situation where they seemingly believe in him. I mean, they traded third round picks that no one expected they were going to trade, pick him up. Not a high priority fab ad, but one that I think that you should at least throw a few dollars at, especially if you ask Prescott another one that is more of a short term play, not one that I would recommend in the same ilk of Carson Wentz is going be Jared Goff. Jared Goff goes against the Washington commanders in the Commander's War, the last ranked defense against the fantasy quarterback position last year. They still don't have Chase Young, which means their pass rush is a little subpar at the moment. And the Lions do have an excellent offensive line. I think that the ending of that Philadelphia game show me the Jared Goff is not afraid to wing it out and they're going to be in a lot of negative game scripts this year. Jared Goff is not a good quarterback, but he is one that is serviceable and I think when you some games in fantasy football so I suggest you give Jared Goff a look as he could potentially be an a streaming option for week two. Another one I didn't expect this one to be all my recommendations as not someone that immediately came to mind. But if you look at the schedule, especially you look at the schedule while Dak is going to be out with this injury, one that does have some favorable matchups coming up, that is going to be Mac Jones. Mac attack is 17% on some of his upcoming games. Baltimore, Chicago, Indianapolis, Detroit, the Jets, all five of those teams were bottom half of the league against fantasy quarterbacks last year. Detroit, the Jets and Indianapolis were all in the bottom 15 in week one. Mac Jones has the upside to potentially when these games if not unexciting option just given the low volume of the patriots passing offense so they're going to Mac Jones if you're desperate I would say in a deeper way more than in a league that's 10 to 12 teams. If you really want to go with the upside play, I recommend someone that came from Mac Jones draft class. That's going to be Trevor Lawrence. Trevor Lawrence is going to be 47% own. T.Y. has two games against the Colts, one against Houston and one against the Chargers. All again, bottom half of the league last year all have improved this year. But if you believe that Trevor Lawrence is that guy of that Andrew Luck prospect, that Peyton Manning prospect, then you have to believe that under Doug Peterson, in a better sense of direction, Trevor Lawrence should be bound for a breakout. Is it going to be this year? Week one didn't suggest great growth, but I think it was him moving in a positive direction. So I would look, at least I would consider him Trevor Lawrence not a bad play moving forward. He has some favorable matchups coming up. And like Mac Jones, like Carson Wentz doesn't have a bye week. In the time, the Dak Prescott would be estimated to miss games according to his original diagnosis. Let's shift on to the running back position. Headliners Elijah Mitchell, Najee Harris starting first with Elijah Mitchell. So obviously you see the Niners helmet on this desk. This one hurts. Eli Mitchell is going to miss two months with a sprained MCL. So let's look internally. Let's see what the Niners have. Jeff Wilson Junior is going to get the first nod, going to get the first opportunity to get touches in this backfield. But I'm not excited about Jeff Wilson Junior. He hasn't really looked explosive the last two years. And I think that's going to show when you look at guys who in the preseason at least looked way more dynamic then Jeff Wilson Junior, that's going to be Ty Davis Price that is going to be Jordan Mason. These are guys that I highly recommend fantasy owners consider, especially if you're in a 14 six. Team League tie Davis Price was a third round pick out of LSU. Jordan Mace, an undrafted rookie out of Georgia Tech. But if you look at the preseason, Ty Davis Price had a few solid runs. Jordan Mason had a lot more of them. Jordan Mason looked like the more explosive back and earned his role because the Niners cut Trey sermon in favor of Mason. They let JaMychal Hasty go in favor of Jordan Mason averaging over five yards a carry in the preseason. I think this is a guy that people should turn their attention to. Jordan Mason is going to be my first recommendation, but if you miss on him, Ty Davis, Price, Jeff Wilson, Junior are all going to have a role that's going to be more committee backfill for the first couple of weeks. But mark my words, I think that Mason is going to be the guy you're going to want open in San Francisco. Kyle Shanahan on offense for the win. Pick a mason. Pick a price pickup. Jeff Wilson, Jr. All three of these guys have an opportunity in a good run centric offense. Okay, let's move on to Najee. So Najee in the preseason and we knew we were right to make a video on this. You could check now. And I got this linked right here was dealing with a wins frank injury. And it seems as though that injury may have lingered into the opening game. He missed some time against the Cincinnati Bengals positive report from Adam Schefter today though quote test today on a foot injury came back negative and there is a belief that according to a source he should be good to go. Sun versus the Patriots. Was that Adam Schefter impersonation? Probably not. Probably not a great one. But the point is that Najee should be out there against the Patriots. But if he's not, Jalen Warren is going to be the backup in Pittsburgh. And even regardless of this diagnosis, I think Warren is worth the pickup, because if we're already talking after week one, the NAJEE had a scare about this once, Frank, then his backup has value. His handcuff has value. If you have a roster spot to spare, spare it on Jalen Warren because Nasir's health is going to be a question mark throughout this year, especially with the diminished Steelers offensive line. A Steelers team in general that got a little bit worse after TJ Watt injury. I think that Jalen Warren is well worth the stash if Najee Harris is to miss any length of time. So pick him up, do it. Do yourself favor. Pick up Jalen, Warren, some other guys on my list. How about James Robinson? No less than 60%. Owen had two touchdowns. I don't like saying that as a Travis Etienne owner, the James Robinson is going to continue to be a thing in Jacksonville. He had double digit touches. I think Doug Peterson is going to use a committee approach between him and Etienne. Both are going to have their moments where they look better than the other. But James Robinson at least has running back three upside hell, even running back to upside should he gets the majority of snaps so pick him up. There's no reason he should be less than 60% own. James Robinson needs to be on all rosters. Rex Burkhead Not a sexy one, one that I detested. I have to even say because I believe in Damien Pierce. But the snap count disagrees with me because Rex Burkhead had 71% of the snaps in the Houston Texans Week one game against the Colts, 71% of snaps. You can't ignore that. That clearly shows that the coaching staff still loves him, still believes in him, still believes he has a role in this offense. Even if Pearce starts to see more work, Rex Burkhead is going to be a thing. He's been a third down back for the entirety of his career. I think he's going to still touches away from Pierce regardless. Pierce will not be a three down back this year. Pierce out the more upside I believe in Pierce the talent. Hopefully you got some touchdown protection to help make up for all the people that drafted him higher and drafts but unfortunately Burkhead this this says a lot this is something that you can't ignore similar to acres in Henderson you have to look at what Burkhead is doing. I don't see him as an upside play. I don't even see him as a starter. But clearly the Texans are going to use him, so be prepared to see Rex Burkhead on waiver wire additions, especially in deeper weeks. Another one, Isaiah Pacheco, 31% owned. Now Isaiah Pacheco was someone that was drafted with the expectation that CRH wouldn't be that good this year. What falloff this year may even overtake C.H. on the roster? Not happening. He had a couple touchdowns in week one. Isaiah Pacheco had garbage time. Pacheco, though, still does have the upside of missing time because throughout his career in the NFL, he has missed time. So if you see Pacheco on your waiver wire, if you see him out there in a deep league, pick up Isaiah Pacheco. Worth the stash somewhere. What? I'm sad about Jalen Warren. Let's talk wide receiver Keenan Allen. Why? Why do you spare me? Why do you have a hamstring injury and are guaranteed to miss week two? There's no way in hell he suits up. I'm going to make that proclamation today regardless of what the tests come back and say. Keenan Allen going to be at week two. So you got to replace them internally like the Chargers. Okay. Jordan Palmer Three targets. DeAndre Carter four targets. Don't love either of these guys. Don't think either of these guys are Keenan Allen replacements. They're not going to take up the same amount of volume. I think most of the work is going to go to Mike Williams, most of the work is going to go off neckwear. But there is going to be some upside in Jordan Palmer and DeAndre Carter on a week to week basis. I would recommend adding them if not just for a speculative. I don't throw a lot of fanboys dollars at them, but they are going to be very touchdown dependent week to week inconsistencies. I don't see them being wide receiver ones. I don't see them being even wide receiver threes, but I do see them as people that you should consider on your waiver wire priorities. Just because Keenan Allen is going to be missing the offense, that's going to be about ten targets that the Chargers need to replace on a given basis. So, Palmer Carter, put him on your radar. Next on this list is going to be I mentioned the commanders take command of your team and have some commanders wide receivers as Carson Wentz against the Detroit Lions is going to have a good day. I'm going to put it in the books. Carson Wentz is going to have upside against the Detroit Lions, which means his wide receivers, Javon Dotson and Curtis Samuel, who are widely available, need to be own. Curtis Samuel Big free agent acquisition for the commanders last year at eight targets in week one volume alone that is worth an add Jahan Dotson upside rookie play needs to be added. Both these guys I think will shine a little bit against the Detroit secondary. So pick them up now because after week two they're going to be hard to acquire. My last recommendation at wide receiver is going to be Mecole Hardman. Nickel is still on a lot of waiver wires out there, and while I don't love the talent, I don't love that he's going to be inconsistent play. He is in the Chiefs offense in week one. The touchdowns went to the wrong receivers. Mecole Hardman was one of them that came down with a touchdown, came down with the Teddy. So you have to add him because he's in this high volume chiefs offense and I don't know if it's still going to be Marquez sky juju, but mecole still has opportunity to shine. He still has touchdown upside. They need to be added just in case. And if there's an injury to one of those guys, expect me cold snap count to go up. Okay let's get into tight ends headliner George Kittle one still hurt missed week one couple missed practices I think this is going to be a multi-week injury again niners royalty George he'll be out really sucks but you don't care about that. You don't care about my misery as a 49 year fan. You care about what's going to help your fantasy football team. So let me help you out, you heathens. OJ Howard two touchdowns in week one against the Colts. I think that he's someone that needs to be added. I don't know how good of a performance he's going to have in week two against the Broncos, but OJ Howard is still a first round talent. I'm surprised the Bills couldn't find a role for him. I think that OJ Howard is someone that you need to pick up. Not going to be a ton of them, maybe like 5 to 10% of your fab used on OJ Howard. But if you have a fringe tight end one on your team, if you have some guys that you're unsure about or if you're dealing with an injury situation like George Kittle, pick up OJ Howard. I think that 3 to 4 targets is enough for a talent like OJ Howard at least end up in the end zone. I think Davis Mills is going to underutilized him. I think that Davis Mills is a guy that can recognize talent. He's like Brandin Cooks, talented guy. Let me get him the ball. OJ Howard, talented guy. Let me get him the ball. So I think Davis Mills is going to be someone that utilizes OJ Howard down the stretch, so maybe not necessarily we too, but he's worth it because the tight end position is such a farce of a position at this point behind the truly elite guys. Evan Ingram now with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has a premium matchup against the same course that OJ Howard played in week one. As long as Shaq Leonard is out, I believe that the tight end position will feast in matchups against the Colts. So I think Evan Ingram has an opportunity end up in the end zone against this Colts defense. Pick him up. Well worth it. 20% owned. This is a upside play. This is potential streamer more than anything, one that I think will help you get the victory. So, Evan Engram, sign him up to your roster. And the last recommendations of last year's worst defense against fantasy titans was the Philadelphia Eagles. Next Monday night, the Minnesota Vikings will play those Eagles, which means Irv Smith Jr, who is 6.4% own well worked at all of the work in week one. Obviously he went to Justin Jefferson. I think the urge Smith has an opportunity against this Eagles secondary to get you a score get you some targets so you probably heard me say a lot during this video were that harassment junior against the secondary worth the ad pick him up guys anyway that does it for the in position that does it for this waiver video but that doesn't do it for this fantasy football season unless you're one to just give up after only one start. I know I'm not. So leave comments below for me. Julian Martinez: [00:00:12] Breaking news. Allen Lazard, the wide receiver, one, or at least the projected wide receiver one for the Green Bay. Packers has officially been ruled as doubtful for his game against the Minnesota Vikings. Which means we have to look at the rest of the options that this team has. The rest of the wide receiving options that this team has because someone has to get these targets. Right, Drew? I mean, 20 to 30 targets on average for this Packers offense. Who's going to be the main beneficiary? We got Sammy Watkins out there. Christian Watson's out there. [00:00:41][28.9]
Andrew Hagenbaugh: [00:00:42] You can also have Romeo Doubs. [00:00:43][0.9] Julian Martinez: [00:00:44] Romo, Doubs. [00:00:44][0.5] Andrew Hagenbaugh: [00:00:45] Randall Cobb is a very Randall Cobb veteran. Even Amari Rodgers is kind of appealing a little bit to. [00:00:51][5.2] Julian Martinez: [00:00:51] Been in that offense a couple of years. How do you see the shaking down? [00:00:55][3.6] Andrew Hagenbaugh: [00:00:55] It looks like a lot of the ball is going to go almost everywhere. I think you're going to see a lot of, you know, the two usual as the Randall Cobbs and Sammy Watkins. You might see an appearance from Christian Watson a couple of times. Maybe you're Amari Rodgers, maybe even a Romeo DBS. But also, too, we could look at tight end Robert Runyan, a guy that Aaron Rodgers could also rely on quite a bit through the middle. So I kind of like Robert Tynion as well a little bit here, but I think this could be a breakout for Cobb and or Sammy Watkins because at this point, Randall Cobb is listed as wide receiver too. And Watkins, the three, you might just move everybody up on its face and put Cobb as the win, Watkins as the two, maybe depending on who you like more Christian wise and as your three or Rodgers as your three. [00:01:40][44.6] Julian Martinez: [00:01:40] The way I'm looking at this, I think one thing I've learned from Aaron Rodgers, particularly when his injured, his wide receivers have been injured or out is that he'll go to guys that he trusts. Randall Cobb I like that you mentioned him as a main beneficiary because if you look back at that game against the Arizona Cardinals last year where they had multiple wide receivers go on the COVID exemption list, you had Randall Cobb catch two touchdowns in that game. [00:02:04][23.8] Andrew Hagenbaugh: [00:02:05] Yeah. [00:02:05][0.0] Julian Martinez: [00:02:06] You look at this backfield with Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. Aaron Rodgers said in the offseason that he looks at both of those guys as 50 plus catch guys. This year I could see both Jones and Dillon catching five targets each, which I think would obviously help their fantasy value this week and give AJ Dillon running back to upside. And then I look around the rest of the roster, okay, who's going to get let's say because let's say they got 25 to 30 targets in this game, 25 to 30 drop backs. I would say Sammy Watkins will be the first in line. He's healthy. And whenever Sammy Watkins has been healthy, he's been good. He's been a good wide receiver. So Sammy Watkins, I think, will be behind Randall Cobb. In my mind, I think the rookies, Doubs and Watson, still a long way to go. And Aaron Rodgers mind because well, Aaron Rodgers called them out a couple weeks ago in the off season, saying that they were a little bit incoherent, running the wrong routes and just a little bit of a shit show, for lack of a better word. So I think that he's going to go trust his veterans. I think he's going to trust Cobb. I think he's going to trust Watkins and I think he's going to trust his backfield. Robert Tonyan's still recovering from his injury, so I think that he's going to be slow, played a little bit more in the offense. And Aaron Rodgers has never really used tight ends other than that one year, that one aberration year for Robert Johnson. So that's how I'm ranking it. Do you have any problems with how I have it breaking down? [00:03:35][89.0] Andrew Hagenbaugh: [00:03:35] No, absolutely not. Like you said, I mean, he has two great pass catching backs in Aaron Jones and A.J. doing so. I mean, you could definitely use those over Robert Johnson and just kind of have those kind of be other almost receivers at that point. And you're going to see the ball being spread out quite a bit between those two. So I like what you said. You know, Cobb is like a one Watkins as a two, maybe like an Amari Rodgers as a three, because he's been there a little bit longer than obviously Christian Watson. And, you know, Romeo are DBS. [00:04:04][28.5] Julian Martinez: [00:04:05] My only problem with Rodgers is just he. [00:04:07][2.3] Andrew Hagenbaugh: [00:04:07] A little. [00:04:08][0.0] Julian Martinez: [00:04:08] Bit of a retread of what Cobb does. [00:04:09][1.4] Andrew Hagenbaugh: [00:04:10] Yeah, I'm just saying that because he's pretty much the only other wide receiver you could put a third spot as a wide receiver three besides the other two rookies. And then, like you said, Aaron Jones and A.J. don't even get more receptions than he would anyway. So at that point, you could put both of those guys as a wide receiver, three in a running back, one or two. [00:04:28][18.4] Julian Martinez: [00:04:29] So if you told me we saw a formation with Aaron Jones lining up outside and AJ Dillon in the backfield, I would also say that that's highly likely given just, oh yeah. Allen Wizards injury hurts their wide receiving depth. In fact, I will recommend to even Randall Cobb as a daily fantasy player. I'm sure you buy him on the cheap and I think he's going to have a touchdown this week. I'm going to call Randall Cobb anytime. Touchdown this week, as Aaron Rodgers looks for his guys, looks for his guys to make a big statement against the Minnesota Vikings. Aaron Rodgers always has a good days against the Minnesota Vikings. I expect nothing less this week. But anyway guys sorry you missed out on Alamosa wasn't hopefully the. Any of these other backup options will be appealing to you or available on your waiver wire. We will like on this video, if you have any fantasy football questions, drop them below in the comments. From Juju Talk sport's Andrew Hagenbaugh stay safe, happy and healthy. Oh, and hit that subscribe button. We'll see you next time. [00:04:29][0.0] [247.2] Julian Martinez: [00:00:12] All righty, Drew. So we have some troubling news from 49ers beat reporter Matt Maiocco that George Kittle star tight end of the 40 Niners is on the injury report and has missed two consecutive practices which if you just go off the history of the 40 niners guys the missed two practices usually don't play that week. So if you're a fantasy owner that happens to have George get on your roster, you have to start thinking about your pivot options. What does that say about George Kittle throughout the season? Are you concerned that this may be a lingering issue? [00:00:45][32.3]
Andrew Hagenbaugh: [00:00:45] Not too much. Obviously, Kittle is one of those guys who has concerning the issues a lot. And for you, as a 49 year span, I'm sure you just can't stand it at this point. [00:00:56][11.1] Julian Martinez: [00:00:57] We haven't even played a game. [00:00:59][1.4] Andrew Hagenbaugh: [00:00:59] Yeah, it seems to be. I mean, you know, Carolina Major says with Christian McCaffrey, you know, it seems like as soon as the season comes closer and closer, like, oh, I guess it's time to get injured at this point, you know? But I feel like it's not going to linger on too much. I feel like it might just be, Oh, he misses one game and he's back next weekend. So I wouldn't really take a too deep of a dove or look into it. I think it's just going to be kind of a one week. Okay. He kind of has to sit out and rest the ankle and make sure he's actually physically okay to play the next. [00:01:31][32.0] Julian Martinez: [00:01:32] What bugs me is this one feels like it came out of nowhere because I was fully expecting the Niners would have their full complement of weapons and this game would be the healthiest that they'd be all season. And George Kittle just randomly appears on the injury report on Wednesday. [00:01:48][16.2] Andrew Hagenbaugh: [00:01:49] Yeah. [00:01:49][0.0] Julian Martinez: [00:01:49] Talk about a hump day like we yet George Kittle just popping up there two straight days off like you said it pretty much solidifies that he might not be in this game. And I would also say that I already had red flags on Kittle because one injury concerns into what he would be in this new Trey Lance centric offense. So now I look at the backup options for the Niners. So let's say you wanted to handcuff him internally. Rost Whaley is a good tight end. Someone that I could see taking on Kittles role well in Kittles absence. However, I don't know what Kittles role is in the Trey Lance offense, so I can't recommend Rost wisely this week. Is there any other tight ends you maybe are looking at that might be good replacements. Some of the stands out lower ownership. I'm some the pop to me is Albert O out of Denver he goes into Seattle this week. I think that might be a good option. But who else stands out to you? [00:02:44][54.8] Andrew Hagenbaugh: [00:02:45] I mean, I like the option and especially to because I'm looking at players your aren't even are low rostered right now you know guys like Hayden Hurst going up against Pittsburgh or you know, Austin Hooper going up against, you know, New York Giants. I know Austin Hooper isn't the most likable guy right now because of his time in Cleveland. But again, you got to take a look at what he did in the years in Atlanta, where he was one of the best tight ends in the league. And, you know, could he be back into that situation to where, you know, he becomes one of Tino's best options at this point? You know, he can get a lot of touches, you know, a lot of receptions. You have Brevin Jordan in Houston who might be a good solid option against Indianapolis. I the likes of Tyler Conklin or Cameron Brate. There's a couple of people who are still pretty available if you look at it because roster percentage for like Austin Hooper is like only like 25 to 29%. You know, Hayden Hurst is only around 20%. There's there should be a couple of these guys you can go and snatch for week one, especially to fill in for George Kittle because like you said, the man just can't stay healthy for at least a day. [00:03:54][69.6] Julian Martinez: [00:03:56] Yeah. If this turns into a multi week injury, considering the high draft pick that you put into Kittle, this could be a little bit of a killer as you try and look for replacements in week one. Another one I'll throw out there is Mo Ali Cox. So they'll they go against the Houston Texans this week. Sixth worst defense against fantasy titans last year allowing 9.4 points a game mo Ali Cox big body if you told me he ended up in the end zone, then I could see that as a possibility. So I really just banking on a stream or touchdown dependent option, which unfortunately again, with Kittle gone, that's really what you're relying on with these back and tight ends. You're relying on guys who are just going to be very touchdown dependent. Albert is going to be touchdown dependent and Mo Ali Cox is going to be touchdown dependent. Another guy who's like 50% owned then I'll throw out there is going to be Gerald Everett now with the Chargers. The Chargers go against the Raiders. And the Raiders were the third worst defense against fantasy tight ends last year. [00:04:52][56.1] Andrew Hagenbaugh: [00:04:52] Yeah. [00:04:52][0.0] Julian Martinez: [00:04:53] So Gerald Everett, if he's available, I would say pick him up now. Get him on your roster because he might need to be your George Kittle. Fill in. Still no determination on if George Kittle is going to miss this game, but I think it's good to get ahead of it. Just. In case you get that o on fantasy morning, it might be helpful to have the big O Alberto out of Denver or to have Gerald Everett or to have Mo Ali Cox. So Mo and Big O Bo, Alec Cox. Just easy way to remember it, guys. You mentioned a couple of options. I don't believe in Roswell. This week, like I said, Chicago was kind of middle of the pack against fantasy tight ends. And I don't really know what Ross how many catches Roswell he's going to have, how many targets. I think the Niners are still going to have a mostly run centric offense. And certainly as they try and slow play Trey Lance into the offense, I think you're not going to see them just zipping it around the field. So Roswell here, I'm going to fade him as Kittles back up. But that's kind of how I'm feeling. That's kind of how I'm reading the situation. Anything else to add before we head out on this one, Drew? [00:05:54][61.6] Andrew Hagenbaugh: [00:05:55] I did see one, but I also kind of like to that is most likely also going to be touchdown dependent. You could be the likes of an Adam Trautman against Atlanta like that. [00:06:06][10.6] Julian Martinez: [00:06:06] Yeah. Atlanta again another defense is exploitable or at least has been the last couple of years. [00:06:12][5.5] Andrew Hagenbaugh: [00:06:13] Yeah. And Jameis Winston, you know. Yeah, he does have Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry and the likes of Chris Holloway. But who knows, he could spread the ball around quite a bit. And, you know, he might be able to find, you know, the Adam Trautman in the end zone and give you that one little touchdown or something. [00:06:27][14.6] Julian Martinez: [00:06:28] And one thing that has always been said about Jameis going back to his time at Tampa is he actually was able to use his tight ends. Yeah, no offense. You did see Cameron Brate have some success. OJ Howard had a little bit of success so I could see Adam Trautman being again a touch down play. Like you're saying, as we see what Jameis is in New Orleans, because last year he didn't throw the ball up, he had less than 200 pass yards in each of the games he played up until he tore his ACL. So I like Trautman. I think that that's good option, mostly because I don't believe in the Atlanta defense, though. That's kind of like where you're at. Guys, I'm sorry. You may be losing out on a guy you drafted with a top five round draft pick in George Kittle. But it's just the way the thing breaks sometimes, particularly if you are a Niners fan. [00:06:28][0.0] [365.6] Watch Here - https://youtu.be/Y98SguvoQgg Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields were two of the top quarterback prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft. Lawrence was selected with the first overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Lawrence struggled under head coach Urban Meyer and had an eight week stretch where he only recorded one passing touchdown. This coincided with leading the NFL in interceptions. Justin Fields was selected 10th overall out of Ohio State by the Chicago Bears. Fields showed flashes of the all-world athleticism that had him a top recruit coming out of high school but it wasn't enough in Chicago. Matt Nagy was fired after the season and Fields will be on his second coach in as many years. Now for fantasy football owners and dynasty drafters the question once again is Justin Fields or Trevor Lawrence? Andrew Hohman and Ju-Ju discuss whether Lawrence or Fields will have the better 2022 NFL season for fantasy drafters. #trevorlawrence #justinfields #fantasyfootball
Julian Martinez: [00:00:12] All righty, Drew. I think coming into the 2021 NFL draft, I had Trevor Lawrence and Jess Phillips going back to back. That didn't end up being the case, although Trevor Lawrence did go number one overall, just feels out of weight a little bit and he had to wait until the 10th pick to get drafted by the Chicago Bears. Why we're pairing them together in this segment is when you actually look at the ADP and fantasy football, they're going in a very similar range right now. Justin Fields is the 17th quarterback off the board. Trevor Lawrence is the 20th quarterback off the board. But when you actually look at the picks, it's a marginal difference at best. Certainly when you talk about starting into a dynasty league, people are asking like, which of these quarterbacks you prioritize? I think it comes down to like, what was our pre-draft expectations of what these guys would be? Right. People were looking at Trevor Lawrence. I think this is a Andrew Luck type. This is a Peyton Manning type. This is a franchise changer. And then his rookie season happened and he had literally an eight week stretch where he threw one touchdown. And Justin Fields, dynamic athlete. Hell of an arm. I remember the game against Clemson, against Trevor Lawrence, where he just absolutely lift them up, lit them up like a torch. And his rookie year, people will say, marred by Matt Nagy. Potentially. Potentially. He did have some flash games, definitely gave a little bit better of a showing, I feel, than Trevor Lawrence gave, albeit he had a negative touchdown to interception ratio through more interceptions than he threw touchdowns, which is never a good sign, which is not something that you want in a franchise quarterback, especially for a franchise that has never really had a franchise quarterback. But there's reasons to be happy for both these guys. A second year, a second year turnaround is always possible. If you had to put your money on it, which of these guys would be most the most productive option for you in fantasy football for the 2022 season? [00:02:15][122.5] Andrew Hohman: [00:02:16] So if I had to pick one of the two guys that I like the most, I'm going to go with Trevor Lawrence. I think he's a little bit more talented overall, and I think that he, with the new head coaching staff there, will be put in better positions to be able to be successful. His receivers aren't great, but neither are Justin Fields. They did add Christian Kirk, which is a great weapon in the slot. I think that will help them a lot. I don't see a huge jump from either of these two this season, but you never know. I mean, Peyton Manning had a horrible rookie year and he turned it around quick. [00:02:51][35.6] Julian Martinez: [00:02:52] So reasons for optimism. Yeah. Trevor Lawrence. So both these guys have new head coaches. That's something. That's right. Both these guys have new head coaches. And while I was more willing last year than others to give Urban Meyer a chance, he had his chance and it didn't work out. This year they have Doug Peterson. And what has Doug Peterson done in the NFL? I don't know. Win a Super Bowl. It was actually surprising that Peterson actually had to sit out a year. And while the relationship with Carson Wentz went toxic quick, I felt that what separated Peterson as a coach was that he was able to build great relationships with players, and I think that he's going to do that out the gate with Trevor Lawrence. Why? I'm a little bit more concerned, though, about the coaching hire in Chicago. Matt Eber, who's I believe he was originally hired by Josh McDaniels, kept the job after McDaniels bailed on the Colts and ended up being a good piece for them, really added to that Indianapolis Colts defense. He still a defensive minded head coach, which doesn't really speak to a quarterback's development or is in like a strong in an indicator of quarterback growth from year to year, certainly from a struggle of a rookie year to his sophomore season in Justin Fields case. So if I had a bank of coaching who I think would have a better season, I would say Trevor Lawrence And then you mentioned the weapons. Jacksonville has way better weapons than Chicago does. You mentioned Christian Kirk. Travis Etienne is coming back and has apparently looked like everyone in training camp. Fantastic. Marvin Jones, Zay Jones, Evan Engram. These are all guys that I could name. You know, these are all household names, relatively when it comes to the Chicago Bears. Still, these are guys that kind of have to prove it at the NFL level. Darnell Mooney has to prove it. Byron Pringle has to prove it. You know, you get into the less talented, say, brown brother in academics. These are all guys that kind of have to really show something in Chicago and doing it under a quarterback that's still trying to figure it out himself. It's concerning, I guess, when I compare the rookie seasons, obviously, like I mentioned, Justin Fields gave me a little bit more to look at. Obviously he was more dynamic using his legs, which is always a cheat code in fantasy football, right? Quarterbacks like you use their legs, you can always scramble outside and get a little bit more because rushing yards ultimately add up more than pass yards. And Trevor didn't really even use that to his advantage. That was one of his shortcomings. Last year. He got two rushing touchdowns very, very early on. But other than that, 36 to 39 yards was the high. That's not what you want him to do, right? You want to be that three passing touchdown guy that for passing touchdown guy again. You want to be Andrew Luck. You want him be Peyton Manning. You know, what is the realistic hope for Trevor Lawrence this year? I mean, the. [00:05:42][170.2] Andrew Hohman: [00:05:42] Realistic hope is that Christian Kirk helps open things up for him and Doug Peterson does great things. He made Nick Foles look like great quarterback. I mean, Nick Foles Super Bowl MVP with Doug Peterson. So, I mean, anything is possible there. [00:05:58][16.0] Julian Martinez: [00:05:58] In fairness, Frank Reich was also the. Oh, see. [00:06:00][1.9] Andrew Hohman: [00:06:01] That is true. [00:06:01][0.4] Julian Martinez: [00:06:02] Do you know that after Reich left to get the job in Indianapolis, that's where the drama started in Philadelphia. [00:06:08][6.0] Andrew Hohman: [00:06:10] One thing I will say in favor of Justin Fields is the Bears. Yes, they hired a defensive head coach. They also added Luke Get C as their offensive coordinator this year, who has been the quarterback coach for the Packers for the last three seasons. I think that that could be a really good ad he's been coaching the. Quarterback for the last two seasons. So who knows? Maybe help out Justin Fields, figure it out a little bit. [00:06:34][24.2] Julian Martinez: [00:06:34] And you also got a first year coordinator in Press Taylor for the Jacksonville Jaguars coaching staff for the 2022 season. I feel more comfortable in saying Justin Fields just because maybe you get lucky and you get at least get some Jalen Hurts type upside. Maybe the Bears are going to be in a lot of bad games this year, positive game strips for fantasy players, and that's going to be his opportunity to succeed. I think what Peterson is going to do to actually make Trevor Lawrence a better pro is simplify the offense, which might not be exactly exciting for fantasy owners, but will be better for Trevor Lawrence as long term development, which at best probably is going to be a quarterback in the 15 to 20 range. But for Justin Fields, if at very least he's exciting is able to use his legs, there's an outside possibility he could end up in the top ten. And that might be more of what I'm looking for if I'm drafting a starting quarterback or one of these guys late. [00:07:32][57.7] Andrew Hohman: [00:07:33] I think that's fair. I wouldn't say that you're wrong for picking either one in this situation. I can tell you you should not pick you do these quarterbacks to be a quarterback one. [00:07:42][9.4] Julian Martinez: [00:07:44] So if I'm doubling down really on this wait on quarterback debate, you're you're saying I can't just roll into week one with Trevor Lawrence. [00:07:51][7.2] Andrew Hohman: [00:07:52] I don't recommend it. [00:07:53][1.0] Julian Martinez: [00:07:53] I'll be so stacked at every other position. [00:07:55][2.0] Andrew Hohman: [00:07:57] Not that a stacked draft. [00:07:58][1.7] Julian Martinez: [00:07:59] Trevor Lawrence behind Justin Tucker screw it I was stat that kicker. [00:08:02][3.4] Andrew Hohman: [00:08:04] You know if you really want Justin Tucker that bad that gets taken before quarterback. [00:08:09][4.9] Julian Martinez: [00:08:10] There's always that guy that decides, you know what, I'm going to draft a kicker five rounds before the last round. Stop doing it. Even Justin Tucker, stop doing it. There's no point, Mel, wasting everyone's time. [00:08:22][11.7] Andrew Hohman: [00:08:24] Pick a kicker in the last round, please. [00:08:25][1.6] Julian Martinez: [00:08:26] That should be punishable by getting kicked out of the league. All right, guys. Well, anyway, going into the 2022 season, Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence, both are on the board. Who are you picking? Drop below in the comments we want to know we will like on this video hit that subscribe button from juju talks sports from Andrew Hohman. Stay safe, happy and healthy and we will see you next time. [00:08:26][0.0] [477.5] Watch Here - https://youtu.be/LfLXXfttFi8 Speaker 1: [00:00:13] All righty, Drew. So Melvin Gordon returned to Broncos practice on Monday. He has been nursing a foot injury that kept him out the last week of camp. Now, a lot of people obviously want to give it to the young guy, say a very exciting, dynamic sophomore running back. But Melvin Gordon, even though he was getting a little bit written off, still had an excellent 2021 season, especially with the value that he was going at in 2021. He had 203 attempts, 98 rushing yards, 4.5 yards per carry and eight touchdowns. The interesting thing, and we talked about it a little bit, is it was very close to the rookie Javonte Williams 203 attempts for him. So literally the same amount of attempts, 903 yards and four rushing touchdowns, so has two touchdowns. So Melvin definitely had better touchdown walk last year. There's been some changes for the Broncos. They have a new coach. So different regime. How do you think this is going to break down going into this year? Do you think that Javonte will truly take over or do you think this will literally be what it was last year, a 5050 share? [00:01:16][63.3]
Speaker 2: [00:01:17] So the other huge addition there is Russell Wilson. I think that that will definitely make a difference and the offense will make a difference in their split. I don't know. Melvin Gordon, though, recently said that the coaches in Denver are trying to make Javonte Williams the guy. Melvin Gordon has always been one to shoot straight with the media, and I believe him on this. I think Javonte Williams will probably get at least 60% this year just going into his second year. I think that's a reasonable progression for him, maybe even 65%. But we'll see. I mean, I think that Devonte Williams is the guy to own for sure. I think he's the higher talent at this point. Melvin Gordon, still good back and will be useful for fantasy football, but maybe as a flex, not an RB two level player age 29. [00:02:15][58.3] Speaker 1: [00:02:16] So he's not quite at that 30 mark that we just completely dismiss all running backs when it comes to the actual game, the NFL game or certainly fantasy football. [00:02:27][10.9] Speaker 2: [00:02:27] For everyone not named Frank or. [00:02:29][1.3] Speaker 1: [00:02:29] For everyone not named Frank Gore. But when you have a guy age 22 was one of the most elusive running backs out of North Carolina and had a reputation for breaking tackles, I believe Javonte Williams led last season in broken tackles. Obviously people are going to be excited and people do want to see him take that next progression because it's it's these type of guys that turn into Johnathan Taylor's right. The turn into guys that are dominating the league taking the league by storm and you can't see enough of. But if you're the Broncos I think that while you have both these guys in your locker room, it is wise to use their skill sets to the best of their abilities. Because obviously Melvin Gordon, like I said, he still has showed moments of quickness last year. He still showed that a level of toughness and his running style going back to his time with the Chargers when he first came in, he still had that explosiveness, which I think a lot of people going into the 2021 season just thought he lost because he just didn't seem as explosive. I think he kind of got a little bit more marred with injuries over the prior two years. The last year was a nice little renaissance to remind everyone that he still existed. He's still a good running back in his own right coming into the year. The ADP is how they're kind of breaking down. So overall, JAVONTE is going at pick 15 and standard leagues and he is going at pick 21 in PPR. Now decent back end second round if we're talking about a 12 team league. Melvin, I think Melvin, you'll probably get at a better value. So overall and Standard League's going to pick 98 and in PPR, also 98. So when I tell you that 80 PS both of these guys in your mind draftable. [00:04:19][109.4] Speaker 2: [00:04:21] I think both of them are very draftable. I think those are both pretty good values for those guys just for what you can get out of them. I think if either one of them happen, they get hurt. The other one would be a great player for your team. [00:04:31][11.0] Speaker 1: [00:04:32] So what do you think is a realistic expectation for Malvin Gordon this year? [00:04:36][3.2] Speaker 2: [00:04:36] I think for Melvin Gordon, you're looking at a flex player, somebody who's might be in and out of your lineup, the guy you question whether you want to start them each week. [00:04:45][8.4] Speaker 1: [00:04:45] And when it comes to Javonte, knowing the Melvin is there, do we temper expectations or do we just write him in Sharpie as a running back one? [00:04:55][9.3] Speaker 2: [00:04:56] He may end up borderline one, borderline RB two, but I think his ceiling is much higher. I think having Melvin Gordon there, a very talented running back, taking 30, 35% of the plays, it is only going to help them stay fresh, stay healthy. I think it's honestly a good thing for Devonte Williams owner. [00:05:16][20.6] Speaker 1: [00:05:17] Do you think that maybe we'll start to see and I know it's a fluky start, but do you think we'll start to see the touchdowns lean more towards Javonte as opposed to Melvin? [00:05:25][7.8] Speaker 2: [00:05:26] I don't know that. I do know that Melvin Gordon has always been a pretty good goal. Line back. So if the Broncos are going to use their running backs towards their talent, I think that's a good play to use. Nolan Gordon more at the goal line. It may even out, but I still think that Melvin Gordon is going to get a share of scores. [00:05:44][18.5] Speaker 1: [00:05:45] And what about Russ, obviously, where you mentioned Russell's addition to the offense and there was good running back way in Seattle. Obviously, you go back to the Bisquick, Chris Carson had his moments as a fantasy superstar going to Denver. There's obviously the belief that Russ let Russ Cook will continue to head into let's ride Denver. What do you think? Do you think that has an impact on the backs? Do you think it's a positive impact? [00:06:10][24.4] Speaker 2: [00:06:11] I think the offense as a whole is going to score more points. So I think that that will help. They may have more touchdowns, go to the receivers, but there's still be plenty going with the running backs. The one thing that does scare me a little bit is that Russell Wilson might steal a few of those touchdown runs. [00:06:29][17.6] Speaker 1: [00:06:30] Potentially know he's not as elusive as he was back in the day. You don't see as many go on scrambles, although he does have them. But his back pocket, if we go back to Russ a couple of years ago last year, Russ not so much looked a little bit slow, wasn't as quick on his feet. First year dealing with injury. A lot of obviously people are high on the Broncos coming into this year. So we'll see if it holds up. Anyway, guys, drop below in the comments. Javonte Williams Melvin Gordon. Melvin Gordon. Is that still someone that your party and drafts and your comfortable taking as your running back three maybe a running back four if you're lucky. We were like on this video from juju talk sports talksport's andrew holman stay safe, happy and healthy. We'll see on the next one. She? [00:06:30][0.0] [364.1] Watch Here - https://youtu.be/51ejm0jGFBs Speaker 1: [00:00:12] Are you ready to talk about the most polarizing player in fantasy football? If I must. Christian McCaffrey. This is a guy I definitely invested in last year, and I was definitely disappointed at the end results. We only got to see seven games of him, but the seven games we saw still looked like Christian McCaffrey. I'll read off his game logs. 18.7. 19.7. Yet four. I believe that was the injury week. 10.6, 16.1, 17.9 and 3.5. So I think, again, I want to say another injury week to get a soft tissue injury has just kind of knocked him on his ass. And I think that's the scariest part. It's not like a guy just tearing his ACL or breaking a bone. When you start to hear about these reoccurring muscle injuries makes you a little uncomfy. When we're talking about the sport of fantasy football and investing in a guy, especially investing in a guy with the number two overall pick according to average draft position in bolts standard NPR. Staring down the gun barrel, you have the number two overall pick. Are you doing it? [00:01:19][66.7]
Speaker 2: [00:01:20] So there's a lot of reasons not to, but I would definitely be doing it. I have to say that part of the reason that I would is that Derrick Henry's also got the injury issues. Otherwise he might be my choice. But Christian McCaffrey is upside is just too good. I mean, the guy is capable of dragging a bad roster to a championship if he's healthy. [00:01:43][23.1] Speaker 1: [00:01:44] And you think about the other guys in that range. So you mentioned Derrick Henry. Okay. Respect Derrick Henry. Still one of the most dominant athletes in the game. And we don't know what he's going to be because that was his first run in with a real injury. Yep. You look at Austin Ekeler. Austin Ekeler wishes he was Christian McCaffrey. Austin Ekeler has Christian McCaffrey. That's kind of what Austin Ekeler can hope to be for you in fantasy football. You just hope that he turns into what Christian McCaffrey was a couple of years ago. We're talking about a guy we talked about in another segment, DeAndre Swift targeting a thousand thousand season. Christian McCaffrey has done that, and only a few guys in the history of the NFL's game have actually done 1000 thousand. He's had in multiple seasons with over 100 receptions of the running back position. In his rookie year, he had 80 receptions. Now that there are reasons besides the injuries to be a little bit concerned about Christian McCaffrey quarterback. We're still trying to figure out is it going to be Sam Darnold or is it going to be Baker Mayfield? Even with that said, he had writer career Cam Newton throwing in the ball most of the time in his best seasons. And Cam was nothing special how he was able make it work with Kyle Allen and some other of lesser ilk. So Christian McCaffrey could do it with that regardless of who the running back is. We don't think much of Carolina's offensive line either. You look around weapons that can take away targets. I mean, he's worked well with D.J. Moore. He's worked well with Robby Anderson. Whatever Robby Anderson is now, or if he's on the field, he's fine. If he's on the field, he's definitely a RB one. I don't even think about it twice. [00:03:22][98.6] Speaker 2: [00:03:24] Absolutely not. [00:03:25][0.6] Speaker 1: [00:03:25] It just the seed of doubt is there. [00:03:26][1.2] Speaker 2: [00:03:28] There's always that scene about with them and when you draft them, it's going to be the scariest pic you make. [00:03:34][5.5] Speaker 1: [00:03:35] Like you said, he could carry a bad roster to a fantasy championship so I could fuck up in the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth round. I'd hope I wouldn't, but obviously if I did. If I have a guy who's putting up wide receiver one production and running back one production, those are my starting lineup. I'm going to still manage to win more games than I probably should. You could be one of those guys just because you have Christian McCaffrey. You're one of those lackadaisical owners that barely sets your lineup and you still happen to fall backwards into the playoffs. That's something that could realistically happen and I guess. For argument's sake. There's not a perfect running back in round one besides maybe Jonathan Taylor, right? [00:04:20][45.1] Speaker 2: [00:04:21] Right there. There's definitely not one Austin Ekeler. [00:04:23][2.6] Speaker 1: [00:04:24] Small guy hasn't had a lot of workload in his career. Derrick Henry. Again, we talked about it first major injury of his career. We could get into the wide receiver territory, sure. But Najee Harris, second year around, we just got to see what he can do with his change that quarterback position because Ben was just dumping the ball off to him. Ben trusted him as his favorite target last year, so it could be a different change of pace for him. Dalvin Cook Again, injury concerns. Joe Mixon Injury concerns, yeah. Howard The next one down that I look at is like DeAndre Swift, who again is trying to become Christian McCaffrey. [00:05:01][36.9] Speaker 2: [00:05:02] Also injury concern. Yeah. [00:05:04][1.9] Speaker 1: [00:05:04] Same. Same? Yeah. [00:05:05][1.1] Speaker 2: [00:05:06] The only perfect running back out there is a guaranteed healthy Christian McCaffrey. [00:05:11][5.2] Speaker 1: [00:05:12] I think he's still got to do it. [00:05:13][1.2] Speaker 2: [00:05:14] And do too. [00:05:15][0.4] Speaker 1: [00:05:15] So we both agree that the only one you rank above him is Jonathan Taylor. Yeah. Yeah. So if you're staring down the gun barrel, you got the number two overall pick. Just. You got to do it. Yeah. I mean, and if you really don't feel good about it, fine. Maybe you are in a league where you could trade down. Consider that. [00:05:33][17.8] Speaker 2: [00:05:34] Yeah, but, I mean, if you. If you want to win, you take a shot at it out of Christian McCaffrey and hope that he stays healthy enough to get you through. [00:05:42][7.6] Speaker 1: [00:05:43] This is one of those. Go big or go home type picks, right? Yeah. All right, guys. Well, are you putting your faith back in Christian McCaffrey? Let us know below in the comments. Leave a like on the video.
