Watch Here - https://youtu.be/Y98SguvoQgg Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields were two of the top quarterback prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft. Lawrence was selected with the first overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Lawrence struggled under head coach Urban Meyer and had an eight week stretch where he only recorded one passing touchdown. This coincided with leading the NFL in interceptions. Justin Fields was selected 10th overall out of Ohio State by the Chicago Bears. Fields showed flashes of the all-world athleticism that had him a top recruit coming out of high school but it wasn't enough in Chicago. Matt Nagy was fired after the season and Fields will be on his second coach in as many years. Now for fantasy football owners and dynasty drafters the question once again is Justin Fields or Trevor Lawrence? Andrew Hohman and Ju-Ju discuss whether Lawrence or Fields will have the better 2022 NFL season for fantasy drafters. #trevorlawrence #justinfields #fantasyfootball
Julian Martinez: [00:00:12] All righty, Drew. I think coming into the 2021 NFL draft, I had Trevor Lawrence and Jess Phillips going back to back. That didn't end up being the case, although Trevor Lawrence did go number one overall, just feels out of weight a little bit and he had to wait until the 10th pick to get drafted by the Chicago Bears. Why we're pairing them together in this segment is when you actually look at the ADP and fantasy football, they're going in a very similar range right now. Justin Fields is the 17th quarterback off the board. Trevor Lawrence is the 20th quarterback off the board. But when you actually look at the picks, it's a marginal difference at best. Certainly when you talk about starting into a dynasty league, people are asking like, which of these quarterbacks you prioritize? I think it comes down to like, what was our pre-draft expectations of what these guys would be? Right. People were looking at Trevor Lawrence. I think this is a Andrew Luck type. This is a Peyton Manning type. This is a franchise changer. And then his rookie season happened and he had literally an eight week stretch where he threw one touchdown. And Justin Fields, dynamic athlete. Hell of an arm. I remember the game against Clemson, against Trevor Lawrence, where he just absolutely lift them up, lit them up like a torch. And his rookie year, people will say, marred by Matt Nagy. Potentially. Potentially. He did have some flash games, definitely gave a little bit better of a showing, I feel, than Trevor Lawrence gave, albeit he had a negative touchdown to interception ratio through more interceptions than he threw touchdowns, which is never a good sign, which is not something that you want in a franchise quarterback, especially for a franchise that has never really had a franchise quarterback. But there's reasons to be happy for both these guys. A second year, a second year turnaround is always possible. If you had to put your money on it, which of these guys would be most the most productive option for you in fantasy football for the 2022 season? [00:02:15][122.5] Andrew Hohman: [00:02:16] So if I had to pick one of the two guys that I like the most, I'm going to go with Trevor Lawrence. I think he's a little bit more talented overall, and I think that he, with the new head coaching staff there, will be put in better positions to be able to be successful. His receivers aren't great, but neither are Justin Fields. They did add Christian Kirk, which is a great weapon in the slot. I think that will help them a lot. I don't see a huge jump from either of these two this season, but you never know. I mean, Peyton Manning had a horrible rookie year and he turned it around quick. [00:02:51][35.6] Julian Martinez: [00:02:52] So reasons for optimism. Yeah. Trevor Lawrence. So both these guys have new head coaches. That's something. That's right. Both these guys have new head coaches. And while I was more willing last year than others to give Urban Meyer a chance, he had his chance and it didn't work out. This year they have Doug Peterson. And what has Doug Peterson done in the NFL? I don't know. Win a Super Bowl. It was actually surprising that Peterson actually had to sit out a year. And while the relationship with Carson Wentz went toxic quick, I felt that what separated Peterson as a coach was that he was able to build great relationships with players, and I think that he's going to do that out the gate with Trevor Lawrence. Why? I'm a little bit more concerned, though, about the coaching hire in Chicago. Matt Eber, who's I believe he was originally hired by Josh McDaniels, kept the job after McDaniels bailed on the Colts and ended up being a good piece for them, really added to that Indianapolis Colts defense. He still a defensive minded head coach, which doesn't really speak to a quarterback's development or is in like a strong in an indicator of quarterback growth from year to year, certainly from a struggle of a rookie year to his sophomore season in Justin Fields case. So if I had a bank of coaching who I think would have a better season, I would say Trevor Lawrence And then you mentioned the weapons. Jacksonville has way better weapons than Chicago does. You mentioned Christian Kirk. Travis Etienne is coming back and has apparently looked like everyone in training camp. Fantastic. Marvin Jones, Zay Jones, Evan Engram. These are all guys that I could name. You know, these are all household names, relatively when it comes to the Chicago Bears. Still, these are guys that kind of have to prove it at the NFL level. Darnell Mooney has to prove it. Byron Pringle has to prove it. You know, you get into the less talented, say, brown brother in academics. These are all guys that kind of have to really show something in Chicago and doing it under a quarterback that's still trying to figure it out himself. It's concerning, I guess, when I compare the rookie seasons, obviously, like I mentioned, Justin Fields gave me a little bit more to look at. Obviously he was more dynamic using his legs, which is always a cheat code in fantasy football, right? Quarterbacks like you use their legs, you can always scramble outside and get a little bit more because rushing yards ultimately add up more than pass yards. And Trevor didn't really even use that to his advantage. That was one of his shortcomings. Last year. He got two rushing touchdowns very, very early on. But other than that, 36 to 39 yards was the high. That's not what you want him to do, right? You want to be that three passing touchdown guy that for passing touchdown guy again. You want to be Andrew Luck. You want him be Peyton Manning. You know, what is the realistic hope for Trevor Lawrence this year? I mean, the. [00:05:42][170.2] Andrew Hohman: [00:05:42] Realistic hope is that Christian Kirk helps open things up for him and Doug Peterson does great things. He made Nick Foles look like great quarterback. I mean, Nick Foles Super Bowl MVP with Doug Peterson. So, I mean, anything is possible there. [00:05:58][16.0] Julian Martinez: [00:05:58] In fairness, Frank Reich was also the. Oh, see. [00:06:00][1.9] Andrew Hohman: [00:06:01] That is true. [00:06:01][0.4] Julian Martinez: [00:06:02] Do you know that after Reich left to get the job in Indianapolis, that's where the drama started in Philadelphia. [00:06:08][6.0] Andrew Hohman: [00:06:10] One thing I will say in favor of Justin Fields is the Bears. Yes, they hired a defensive head coach. They also added Luke Get C as their offensive coordinator this year, who has been the quarterback coach for the Packers for the last three seasons. I think that that could be a really good ad he's been coaching the. Quarterback for the last two seasons. So who knows? Maybe help out Justin Fields, figure it out a little bit. [00:06:34][24.2] Julian Martinez: [00:06:34] And you also got a first year coordinator in Press Taylor for the Jacksonville Jaguars coaching staff for the 2022 season. I feel more comfortable in saying Justin Fields just because maybe you get lucky and you get at least get some Jalen Hurts type upside. Maybe the Bears are going to be in a lot of bad games this year, positive game strips for fantasy players, and that's going to be his opportunity to succeed. I think what Peterson is going to do to actually make Trevor Lawrence a better pro is simplify the offense, which might not be exactly exciting for fantasy owners, but will be better for Trevor Lawrence as long term development, which at best probably is going to be a quarterback in the 15 to 20 range. But for Justin Fields, if at very least he's exciting is able to use his legs, there's an outside possibility he could end up in the top ten. And that might be more of what I'm looking for if I'm drafting a starting quarterback or one of these guys late. [00:07:32][57.7] Andrew Hohman: [00:07:33] I think that's fair. I wouldn't say that you're wrong for picking either one in this situation. I can tell you you should not pick you do these quarterbacks to be a quarterback one. [00:07:42][9.4] Julian Martinez: [00:07:44] So if I'm doubling down really on this wait on quarterback debate, you're you're saying I can't just roll into week one with Trevor Lawrence. [00:07:51][7.2] Andrew Hohman: [00:07:52] I don't recommend it. [00:07:53][1.0] Julian Martinez: [00:07:53] I'll be so stacked at every other position. [00:07:55][2.0] Andrew Hohman: [00:07:57] Not that a stacked draft. [00:07:58][1.7] Julian Martinez: [00:07:59] Trevor Lawrence behind Justin Tucker screw it I was stat that kicker. [00:08:02][3.4] Andrew Hohman: [00:08:04] You know if you really want Justin Tucker that bad that gets taken before quarterback. [00:08:09][4.9] Julian Martinez: [00:08:10] There's always that guy that decides, you know what, I'm going to draft a kicker five rounds before the last round. Stop doing it. Even Justin Tucker, stop doing it. There's no point, Mel, wasting everyone's time. [00:08:22][11.7] Andrew Hohman: [00:08:24] Pick a kicker in the last round, please. [00:08:25][1.6] Julian Martinez: [00:08:26] That should be punishable by getting kicked out of the league. All right, guys. Well, anyway, going into the 2022 season, Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence, both are on the board. Who are you picking? Watch Here - https://youtu.be/LfLXXfttFi8 Speaker 1: [00:00:13] All righty, Drew. So Melvin Gordon returned to Broncos practice on Monday. He has been nursing a foot injury that kept him out the last week of camp. Now, a lot of people obviously want to give it to the young guy, say a very exciting, dynamic sophomore running back. But Melvin Gordon, even though he was getting a little bit written off, still had an excellent 2021 season, especially with the value that he was going at in 2021. He had 203 attempts, 98 rushing yards, 4.5 yards per carry and eight touchdowns. The interesting thing, and we talked about it a little bit, is it was very close to the rookie Javonte Williams 203 attempts for him. So literally the same amount of attempts, 903 yards and four rushing touchdowns, so has two touchdowns. So Melvin definitely had better touchdown walk last year. There's been some changes for the Broncos. They have a new coach. So different regime. How do you think this is going to break down going into this year? Do you think that Javonte will truly take over or do you think this will literally be what it was last year, a 5050 share? [00:01:16][63.3]
Speaker 2: [00:01:17] So the other huge addition there is Russell Wilson. I think that that will definitely make a difference and the offense will make a difference in their split. I don't know. Melvin Gordon, though, recently said that the coaches in Denver are trying to make Javonte Williams the guy. Melvin Gordon has always been one to shoot straight with the media, and I believe him on this. I think Javonte Williams will probably get at least 60% this year just going into his second year. I think that's a reasonable progression for him, maybe even 65%. But we'll see. I mean, I think that Devonte Williams is the guy to own for sure. I think he's the higher talent at this point. Melvin Gordon, still good back and will be useful for fantasy football, but maybe as a flex, not an RB two level player age 29. [00:02:15][58.3] Speaker 1: [00:02:16] So he's not quite at that 30 mark that we just completely dismiss all running backs when it comes to the actual game, the NFL game or certainly fantasy football. [00:02:27][10.9] Speaker 2: [00:02:27] For everyone not named Frank or. [00:02:29][1.3] Speaker 1: [00:02:29] For everyone not named Frank Gore. But when you have a guy age 22 was one of the most elusive running backs out of North Carolina and had a reputation for breaking tackles, I believe Javonte Williams led last season in broken tackles. Obviously people are going to be excited and people do want to see him take that next progression because it's it's these type of guys that turn into Johnathan Taylor's right. The turn into guys that are dominating the league taking the league by storm and you can't see enough of. But if you're the Broncos I think that while you have both these guys in your locker room, it is wise to use their skill sets to the best of their abilities. Because obviously Melvin Gordon, like I said, he still has showed moments of quickness last year. He still showed that a level of toughness and his running style going back to his time with the Chargers when he first came in, he still had that explosiveness, which I think a lot of people going into the 2021 season just thought he lost because he just didn't seem as explosive. I think he kind of got a little bit more marred with injuries over the prior two years. The last year was a nice little renaissance to remind everyone that he still existed. He's still a good running back in his own right coming into the year. The ADP is how they're kind of breaking down. So overall, JAVONTE is going at pick 15 and standard leagues and he is going at pick 21 in PPR. Now decent back end second round if we're talking about a 12 team league. Melvin, I think Melvin, you'll probably get at a better value. So overall and Standard League's going to pick 98 and in PPR, also 98. So when I tell you that 80 PS both of these guys in your mind draftable. [00:04:19][109.4] Speaker 2: [00:04:21] I think both of them are very draftable. I think those are both pretty good values for those guys just for what you can get out of them. I think if either one of them happen, they get hurt. The other one would be a great player for your team. [00:04:31][11.0] Speaker 1: [00:04:32] So what do you think is a realistic expectation for Malvin Gordon this year? [00:04:36][3.2] Speaker 2: [00:04:36] I think for Melvin Gordon, you're looking at a flex player, somebody who's might be in and out of your lineup, the guy you question whether you want to start them each week. [00:04:45][8.4] Speaker 1: [00:04:45] And when it comes to Javonte, knowing the Melvin is there, do we temper expectations or do we just write him in Sharpie as a running back one? [00:04:55][9.3] Speaker 2: [00:04:56] He may end up borderline one, borderline RB two, but I think his ceiling is much higher. I think having Melvin Gordon there, a very talented running back, taking 30, 35% of the plays, it is only going to help them stay fresh, stay healthy. I think it's honestly a good thing for Devonte Williams owner. [00:05:16][20.6] Speaker 1: [00:05:17] Do you think that maybe we'll start to see and I know it's a fluky start, but do you think we'll start to see the touchdowns lean more towards Javonte as opposed to Melvin? [00:05:25][7.8] Speaker 2: [00:05:26] I don't know that. I do know that Melvin Gordon has always been a pretty good goal. Line back. So if the Broncos are going to use their running backs towards their talent, I think that's a good play to use. Nolan Gordon more at the goal line. It may even out, but I still think that Melvin Gordon is going to get a share of scores. [00:05:44][18.5] Speaker 1: [00:05:45] And what about Russ, obviously, where you mentioned Russell's addition to the offense and there was good running back way in Seattle. Obviously, you go back to the Bisquick, Chris Carson had his moments as a fantasy superstar going to Denver. There's obviously the belief that Russ let Russ Cook will continue to head into let's ride Denver. What do you think? Do you think that has an impact on the backs? Do you think it's a positive impact? [00:06:10][24.4] Speaker 2: [00:06:11] I think the offense as a whole is going to score more points. So I think that that will help. They may have more touchdowns, go to the receivers, but there's still be plenty going with the running backs. The one thing that does scare me a little bit is that Russell Wilson might steal a few of those touchdown runs. [00:06:29][17.6] Speaker 1: [00:06:30] Potentially know he's not as elusive as he was back in the day. You don't see as many go on scrambles, although he does have them. But his back pocket, if we go back to Russ a couple of years ago last year, Russ not so much looked a little bit slow, wasn't as quick on his feet. First year dealing with injury. A lot of obviously people are high on the Broncos coming into this year. So we'll see if it holds up. Anyway, guys, drop below in the comments. Javonte Williams Melvin Gordon. Melvin Gordon. Is that still someone that your party and drafts and your comfortable taking as your running back three maybe a running back four if you're lucky. We were like on this video from juju talk sports talksport's andrew holman stay safe, happy and healthy. We'll see on the next one. She? [00:06:30][0.0] [364.1] Watch Here - https://youtu.be/51ejm0jGFBs Speaker 1: [00:00:12] Are you ready to talk about the most polarizing player in fantasy football? If I must. Christian McCaffrey. This is a guy I definitely invested in last year, and I was definitely disappointed at the end results. We only got to see seven games of him, but the seven games we saw still looked like Christian McCaffrey. I'll read off his game logs. 18.7. 19.7. Yet four. I believe that was the injury week. 10.6, 16.1, 17.9 and 3.5. So I think, again, I want to say another injury week to get a soft tissue injury has just kind of knocked him on his ass. And I think that's the scariest part. It's not like a guy just tearing his ACL or breaking a bone. When you start to hear about these reoccurring muscle injuries makes you a little uncomfy. When we're talking about the sport of fantasy football and investing in a guy, especially investing in a guy with the number two overall pick according to average draft position in bolts standard NPR. Staring down the gun barrel, you have the number two overall pick. Are you doing it? [00:01:19][66.7]
Speaker 2: [00:01:20] So there's a lot of reasons not to, but I would definitely be doing it. I have to say that part of the reason that I would is that Derrick Henry's also got the injury issues. Otherwise he might be my choice. But Christian McCaffrey is upside is just too good. I mean, the guy is capable of dragging a bad roster to a championship if he's healthy. [00:01:43][23.1] Speaker 1: [00:01:44] And you think about the other guys in that range. So you mentioned Derrick Henry. Okay. Respect Derrick Henry. Still one of the most dominant athletes in the game. And we don't know what he's going to be because that was his first run in with a real injury. Yep. You look at Austin Ekeler. Austin Ekeler wishes he was Christian McCaffrey. Austin Ekeler has Christian McCaffrey. That's kind of what Austin Ekeler can hope to be for you in fantasy football. You just hope that he turns into what Christian McCaffrey was a couple of years ago. We're talking about a guy we talked about in another segment, DeAndre Swift targeting a thousand thousand season. Christian McCaffrey has done that, and only a few guys in the history of the NFL's game have actually done 1000 thousand. He's had in multiple seasons with over 100 receptions of the running back position. In his rookie year, he had 80 receptions. Now that there are reasons besides the injuries to be a little bit concerned about Christian McCaffrey quarterback. We're still trying to figure out is it going to be Sam Darnold or is it going to be Baker Mayfield? Even with that said, he had writer career Cam Newton throwing in the ball most of the time in his best seasons. And Cam was nothing special how he was able make it work with Kyle Allen and some other of lesser ilk. So Christian McCaffrey could do it with that regardless of who the running back is. We don't think much of Carolina's offensive line either. You look around weapons that can take away targets. I mean, he's worked well with D.J. Moore. He's worked well with Robby Anderson. Whatever Robby Anderson is now, or if he's on the field, he's fine. If he's on the field, he's definitely a RB one. I don't even think about it twice. [00:03:22][98.6] Speaker 2: [00:03:24] Absolutely not. [00:03:25][0.6] Speaker 1: [00:03:25] It just the seed of doubt is there. [00:03:26][1.2] Speaker 2: [00:03:28] There's always that scene about with them and when you draft them, it's going to be the scariest pic you make. [00:03:34][5.5] Speaker 1: [00:03:35] Like you said, he could carry a bad roster to a fantasy championship so I could fuck up in the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth round. I'd hope I wouldn't, but obviously if I did. If I have a guy who's putting up wide receiver one production and running back one production, those are my starting lineup. I'm going to still manage to win more games than I probably should. You could be one of those guys just because you have Christian McCaffrey. You're one of those lackadaisical owners that barely sets your lineup and you still happen to fall backwards into the playoffs. That's something that could realistically happen and I guess. For argument's sake. There's not a perfect running back in round one besides maybe Jonathan Taylor, right? [00:04:20][45.1] Speaker 2: [00:04:21] Right there. There's definitely not one Austin Ekeler. [00:04:23][2.6] Speaker 1: [00:04:24] Small guy hasn't had a lot of workload in his career. Derrick Henry. Again, we talked about it first major injury of his career. We could get into the wide receiver territory, sure. But Najee Harris, second year around, we just got to see what he can do with his change that quarterback position because Ben was just dumping the ball off to him. Ben trusted him as his favorite target last year, so it could be a different change of pace for him. Dalvin Cook Again, injury concerns. Joe Mixon Injury concerns, yeah. Howard The next one down that I look at is like DeAndre Swift, who again is trying to become Christian McCaffrey. [00:05:01][36.9] Speaker 2: [00:05:02] Also injury concern. Yeah. [00:05:04][1.9] Speaker 1: [00:05:04] Same. Same? Yeah. [00:05:05][1.1] Speaker 2: [00:05:06] The only perfect running back out there is a guaranteed healthy Christian McCaffrey. [00:05:11][5.2] Speaker 1: [00:05:12] I think he's still got to do it. [00:05:13][1.2] Speaker 2: [00:05:14] And do too. [00:05:15][0.4] Speaker 1: [00:05:15] So we both agree that the only one you rank above him is Jonathan Taylor. Yeah. Yeah. So if you're staring down the gun barrel, you got the number two overall pick. Just. You got to do it. Yeah. I mean, and if you really don't feel good about it, fine. Maybe you are in a league where you could trade down. Consider that. [00:05:33][17.8] Speaker 2: [00:05:34] Yeah, but, I mean, if you. If you want to win, you take a shot at it out of Christian McCaffrey and hope that he stays healthy enough to get you through. [00:05:42][7.6] Speaker 1: [00:05:43] This is one of those. Go big or go home type picks, right? Yeah. All right, guys. Well, are you putting your faith back in Christian McCaffrey? Let us know below in the comments. Leave a like on the video.
