Watch Here - https://youtu.be/Y98SguvoQgg Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields were two of the top quarterback prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft. Lawrence was selected with the first overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Lawrence struggled under head coach Urban Meyer and had an eight week stretch where he only recorded one passing touchdown. This coincided with leading the NFL in interceptions. Justin Fields was selected 10th overall out of Ohio State by the Chicago Bears. Fields showed flashes of the all-world athleticism that had him a top recruit coming out of high school but it wasn't enough in Chicago. Matt Nagy was fired after the season and Fields will be on his second coach in as many years. Now for fantasy football owners and dynasty drafters the question once again is Justin Fields or Trevor Lawrence? Andrew Hohman and Ju-Ju discuss whether Lawrence or Fields will have the better 2022 NFL season for fantasy drafters. #trevorlawrence #justinfields #fantasyfootball
Julian Martinez: [00:00:12] All righty, Drew. I think coming into the 2021 NFL draft, I had Trevor Lawrence and Jess Phillips going back to back. That didn't end up being the case, although Trevor Lawrence did go number one overall, just feels out of weight a little bit and he had to wait until the 10th pick to get drafted by the Chicago Bears. Why we're pairing them together in this segment is when you actually look at the ADP and fantasy football, they're going in a very similar range right now. Justin Fields is the 17th quarterback off the board. Trevor Lawrence is the 20th quarterback off the board. But when you actually look at the picks, it's a marginal difference at best. Certainly when you talk about starting into a dynasty league, people are asking like, which of these quarterbacks you prioritize? I think it comes down to like, what was our pre-draft expectations of what these guys would be? Right. People were looking at Trevor Lawrence. I think this is a Andrew Luck type. This is a Peyton Manning type. This is a franchise changer. And then his rookie season happened and he had literally an eight week stretch where he threw one touchdown. And Justin Fields, dynamic athlete. Hell of an arm. I remember the game against Clemson, against Trevor Lawrence, where he just absolutely lift them up, lit them up like a torch. And his rookie year, people will say, marred by Matt Nagy. Potentially. Potentially. He did have some flash games, definitely gave a little bit better of a showing, I feel, than Trevor Lawrence gave, albeit he had a negative touchdown to interception ratio through more interceptions than he threw touchdowns, which is never a good sign, which is not something that you want in a franchise quarterback, especially for a franchise that has never really had a franchise quarterback. But there's reasons to be happy for both these guys. A second year, a second year turnaround is always possible. If you had to put your money on it, which of these guys would be most the most productive option for you in fantasy football for the 2022 season? [00:02:15][122.5] Andrew Hohman: [00:02:16] So if I had to pick one of the two guys that I like the most, I'm going to go with Trevor Lawrence. I think he's a little bit more talented overall, and I think that he, with the new head coaching staff there, will be put in better positions to be able to be successful. His receivers aren't great, but neither are Justin Fields. They did add Christian Kirk, which is a great weapon in the slot. I think that will help them a lot. I don't see a huge jump from either of these two this season, but you never know. I mean, Peyton Manning had a horrible rookie year and he turned it around quick. [00:02:51][35.6] Julian Martinez: [00:02:52] So reasons for optimism. Yeah. Trevor Lawrence. So both these guys have new head coaches. That's something. That's right. Both these guys have new head coaches. And while I was more willing last year than others to give Urban Meyer a chance, he had his chance and it didn't work out. This year they have Doug Peterson. And what has Doug Peterson done in the NFL? I don't know. Win a Super Bowl. It was actually surprising that Peterson actually had to sit out a year. And while the relationship with Carson Wentz went toxic quick, I felt that what separated Peterson as a coach was that he was able to build great relationships with players, and I think that he's going to do that out the gate with Trevor Lawrence. Why? I'm a little bit more concerned, though, about the coaching hire in Chicago. Matt Eber, who's I believe he was originally hired by Josh McDaniels, kept the job after McDaniels bailed on the Colts and ended up being a good piece for them, really added to that Indianapolis Colts defense. He still a defensive minded head coach, which doesn't really speak to a quarterback's development or is in like a strong in an indicator of quarterback growth from year to year, certainly from a struggle of a rookie year to his sophomore season in Justin Fields case. So if I had a bank of coaching who I think would have a better season, I would say Trevor Lawrence And then you mentioned the weapons. Jacksonville has way better weapons than Chicago does. You mentioned Christian Kirk. Travis Etienne is coming back and has apparently looked like everyone in training camp. Fantastic. Marvin Jones, Zay Jones, Evan Engram. These are all guys that I could name. You know, these are all household names, relatively when it comes to the Chicago Bears. Still, these are guys that kind of have to prove it at the NFL level. Darnell Mooney has to prove it. Byron Pringle has to prove it. You know, you get into the less talented, say, brown brother in academics. These are all guys that kind of have to really show something in Chicago and doing it under a quarterback that's still trying to figure it out himself. It's concerning, I guess, when I compare the rookie seasons, obviously, like I mentioned, Justin Fields gave me a little bit more to look at. Obviously he was more dynamic using his legs, which is always a cheat code in fantasy football, right? Quarterbacks like you use their legs, you can always scramble outside and get a little bit more because rushing yards ultimately add up more than pass yards. And Trevor didn't really even use that to his advantage. That was one of his shortcomings. Last year. He got two rushing touchdowns very, very early on. But other than that, 36 to 39 yards was the high. That's not what you want him to do, right? You want to be that three passing touchdown guy that for passing touchdown guy again. You want to be Andrew Luck. You want him be Peyton Manning. You know, what is the realistic hope for Trevor Lawrence this year? I mean, the. [00:05:42][170.2] Andrew Hohman: [00:05:42] Realistic hope is that Christian Kirk helps open things up for him and Doug Peterson does great things. He made Nick Foles look like great quarterback. I mean, Nick Foles Super Bowl MVP with Doug Peterson. So, I mean, anything is possible there. [00:05:58][16.0] Julian Martinez: [00:05:58] In fairness, Frank Reich was also the. Oh, see. [00:06:00][1.9] Andrew Hohman: [00:06:01] That is true. [00:06:01][0.4] Julian Martinez: [00:06:02] Do you know that after Reich left to get the job in Indianapolis, that's where the drama started in Philadelphia. [00:06:08][6.0] Andrew Hohman: [00:06:10] One thing I will say in favor of Justin Fields is the Bears. Yes, they hired a defensive head coach. They also added Luke Get C as their offensive coordinator this year, who has been the quarterback coach for the Packers for the last three seasons. I think that that could be a really good ad he's been coaching the. Quarterback for the last two seasons. So who knows? Maybe help out Justin Fields, figure it out a little bit. [00:06:34][24.2] Julian Martinez: [00:06:34] And you also got a first year coordinator in Press Taylor for the Jacksonville Jaguars coaching staff for the 2022 season. I feel more comfortable in saying Justin Fields just because maybe you get lucky and you get at least get some Jalen Hurts type upside. Maybe the Bears are going to be in a lot of bad games this year, positive game strips for fantasy players, and that's going to be his opportunity to succeed. I think what Peterson is going to do to actually make Trevor Lawrence a better pro is simplify the offense, which might not be exactly exciting for fantasy owners, but will be better for Trevor Lawrence as long term development, which at best probably is going to be a quarterback in the 15 to 20 range. But for Justin Fields, if at very least he's exciting is able to use his legs, there's an outside possibility he could end up in the top ten. And that might be more of what I'm looking for if I'm drafting a starting quarterback or one of these guys late. [00:07:32][57.7] Andrew Hohman: [00:07:33] I think that's fair. I wouldn't say that you're wrong for picking either one in this situation. I can tell you you should not pick you do these quarterbacks to be a quarterback one. [00:07:42][9.4] Julian Martinez: [00:07:44] So if I'm doubling down really on this wait on quarterback debate, you're you're saying I can't just roll into week one with Trevor Lawrence. [00:07:51][7.2] Andrew Hohman: [00:07:52] I don't recommend it. [00:07:53][1.0] Julian Martinez: [00:07:53] I'll be so stacked at every other position. [00:07:55][2.0] Andrew Hohman: [00:07:57] Not that a stacked draft. [00:07:58][1.7] Julian Martinez: [00:07:59] Trevor Lawrence behind Justin Tucker screw it I was stat that kicker. [00:08:02][3.4] Andrew Hohman: [00:08:04] You know if you really want Justin Tucker that bad that gets taken before quarterback. [00:08:09][4.9] Julian Martinez: [00:08:10] There's always that guy that decides, you know what, I'm going to draft a kicker five rounds before the last round. Stop doing it. Even Justin Tucker, stop doing it. There's no point, Mel, wasting everyone's time. [00:08:22][11.7] Andrew Hohman: [00:08:24] Pick a kicker in the last round, please. [00:08:25][1.6] Julian Martinez: [00:08:26] That should be punishable by getting kicked out of the league. All right, guys. Well, anyway, going into the 2022 season, Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence, both are on the board. Who are you picking?
