The rich get richer as the defending World Series Champions added two perennial all-stars to their roster. As rumors were heating up that the San Diego Padres were close to acquiring Max Scherzer, the @Los Angeles Dodgers struck a deal in the final hour. Not only did the Dodgers acquire the hall of fame righty but speedy shortstop Trea Turner joined him in the exchange. The Dodgers did have to sacrifice a significant amount of talent in the trade, including top prospect Josiah Gray. However, there is no denying the Dodgers have won this deal from the jump. Scherzer has showed no signs of decline as he is sporting a 2.76 ERA and an outstanding 11.9 K/9. The former World Series champion just turned 37 in July. Scherzer's teammate Trea Turner is one of the biggest threats on the base paths in the majors. Turner has stolen 21 bases on the year and is batting .322 a year after coming in 7th in MVP voting. With Turner at the top of the batting order and Scherzer joining Walker Buehler, Clayton Kershaw and others in an elite rotation, who is stopping the Dodgers? #MaxScherzer #Dodgers #LosAngelesDodgers #LADodgers #Nationals #MLB #MLBNews

The NL West was in an all out arms race just before Friday's MLB trade deadline. A lot of pressure was on the San Francisco Giants, following the news of the Dodgers acquiring Max Scherzer and Padres acquiring Adam Frazier. Farhan Zaidi and the Giants were not going to miss their opportunity to improve their lineup with the Chicago Cubs in fire sale mode. The Giants pulled off a trade to bring former league MVP Kris Bryant into town on an expiring contract. Bryant is slashing .279/ .378 / .508 on the year with 18 home runs and an all-star game selection to his name. Bryant is able to fill in at third while Evan Longoria recovers from a shoulder injury and fills a huge hole in the Giants outfield. The Giants currently have the best record in baseball but does the addition of Bryant make them true contenders? #SFGiants #Giants #KrisBryant #SanFranciscoGiants #MLB #MLBNews It's trade deadline season in the MLB and an all-star second baseball is on the move. The Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres came together on a deal that will send the current NL leader in batting average out west. Adam Frazier has been arguably the best second baseman in all of the MLB slashing .324 / .388 / .448 with a major league leading 125 hits. For Fraizer, the Padres will send Tucupita Marcano, Jack Suwinski and Michell Miliano to the Pirates. Marcano has seen time in the big leagues and was the Padres fifth rates prospect in their farm system. This makes a deep line-up deeper as the Padres hope to catch the Dodgers and Giants in a competitive NL West. In this video, our former 619 resident Kyle Ledbetter gives his thoughts on how this changes the Padres outlook in the MLB second half. Chicago White Sox DH Yermin Mercedes crossed the rules when he decided to swing on a 3-0 count mid-blowout against the Minnesota Twins. This alone would not have caused as much controversy, had it not been for White Sox's manager Tony La Russa. La Russa, said he was upset with Mercedes and even said, regarding the Twins throwing at the DH, "I don't have a problem with how the Twins handled that." Should White Sox players now have a problem with La Russa? Is this particular rules one that has any merit in a professional sport?
