Watch Here - https://youtu.be/95TjqoilaOk Speaker 1: [00:00:12] Well, it was definitely interesting weekend for Raiders fans, NFL fans, Buccaneers fans. A whole lot of fan bases were affected by one that Dana White on a Gronk cast. [00:00:21][9.2]
Unidentified: [00:00:22] I work to put that deal together for Brady and Gronk to come to the Raiders and it was almost a done deal. And at the last minute Gruden blew the deal up. [00:00:37][14.3] Speaker 2: [00:00:38] And said that he didn't want them back and whoa, all hell broke loose, man. It was crazy. And and Brady was already looking at houses and it wasn't being said that to Gronk was coming. So Las Vegas would have had Brady and Gronk the year that the Bucs won the Super Bowl, except Gruden blew the deal up. [00:00:57][19.6] Speaker 3: [00:00:59] I'm not really a big fan of this topic, honestly. But hey, I mean, Tom Brady's buddy Tom Brady is Tom Brady. You know, you can't you can't deny that. But what do you do about that? [00:01:09][9.0] Speaker 1: [00:01:09] GRUDEN Also. [00:01:09][0.4] Speaker 3: [00:01:10] Here's a Derek Carr for Tom Brady which offers a lot is not that great anyway. [00:01:14][4.1] Speaker 1: [00:01:14] So so do you think that's why Gruden was so resistant to sign Brady when he was free agent Yeah. [00:01:19][5.2] Speaker 3: [00:01:20] Page number one. Jon Gruden in itself is already old, his offense is old, his defense is old. Why not go out to get an old quarterback? It makes sense. [00:01:30][9.9] Speaker 1: [00:01:32] What did you think when you first heard the comments? [00:01:33][1.3] Speaker 4: [00:01:35] Well, the first thing when I when I saw this was circulating the headlines over the weekend was that people really love these Tom Brady conspiracies so much. First it was, oh, my gosh, Tom Brady's going to the 40 Niners and oh, my gosh, what if Tom Brady were a Raider or oh, my gosh, what if Tom Brady had a secret back deal with the Miami Dolphins, where they were going to have Sean Payton retire and unretired as head coach then in Miami, but it only got blown up by a once in a generation racial discrimination lawsuit. Man, everyone loves these Tom Brady conspiracy theories so much they do. [00:02:06][31.7] Speaker 1: [00:02:07] But this isn't just a conspiracy theory, though. Gronk confirmed this wasn't just Dana White, it was also Matt Lombardi confirmed that this was an almost thing that happened. So what it. [00:02:18][10.8] Speaker 3: [00:02:18] Was import that's the question was why the trigger wasn't pulled in. [00:02:21][3.0] Speaker 1: [00:02:22] Well it seems like it is literally boiling down to Gruden and it my theory on it on why he would be so resistant to go about it would be obviously you're relinquishing team control when Tom Brady goes to your team it's something that the Bucs were much more willing to do. And obviously when Brady gets there, they're signing Leonard Fournette, signing Shady McCoy, they're signing Antonio Brown, they're trading up in the first round to draft the offensive line. A lot of that seemed like Tom Brady doing a little bit of GM manipulation behind the scenes. And maybe that was just something that Gruden and Mike Mayock at the time weren't willing to do. And I could understand why you would be resistant, but at the same time, I think you pull that trigger. I understand what you're saying about the age argument with Derek Carr, but bottom line, we don't know if Derek Carr is ever going to win a Super Bowl. I know what Tom Brady did a couple of years ago. He took the Buccaneers a franchise and he'd been in the playoffs in over a decade and won a Super Bowl. [00:03:18][56.1] Speaker 3: [00:03:18] So but this is the problem, though. This is the problem now. Okay. What's going on? Tom Brady comes into the Las Vegas Raiders. Jon Gruden, any given up his power? That's the only problem. Yeah, we know it. And that's what it means. Tom Brady, not win a Super Bowl in Las Vegas just because of that. Because Drew and don't know how to put weapons around their quarterbacks. If you look at the years that Derek Carr was here, name a real true number one receiver that he had besides Amari Cooper in Michael Crabtree. [00:03:48][29.3] Speaker 1: [00:03:49] Obviously. Martavis Bryant. Right. But that's at least worth a third round pick. We're not getting too high. [00:03:56][7.7] Speaker 3: [00:03:57] My best years was in Pittsburgh. We know that. [00:03:59][1.8] Speaker 1: [00:03:59] Kenny, some Tyrell Williams. [00:04:00][0.9] Speaker 4: [00:04:02] Hunter Renfroe. [00:04:02][0.4] Speaker 3: [00:04:04] Hudson River was not a number one. We know that. [00:04:05][1.6] Speaker 4: [00:04:06] He had more yards than Mike Evans last year and as many touchdowns as Stefon Diggs. Somehow. I still can't believe that's a real stat. [00:04:12][6.1] Speaker 3: [00:04:13] Yeah. And just imagine just imagine how it is now with, you know, with the whole Adams thing, how he's going to be even more open. [00:04:18][5.3] Speaker 1: [00:04:19] In that first round. You know, the Bucs obviously traded up the attrition worse I guess I was fairly was the Henry Ruggs tragedy. [00:04:27][7.6] Speaker 3: [00:04:28] Mm. I wasn't a big fan. I wasn't a big fan of drugs coming out. A lot of people don't know that. I wasn't a big fan of Rugs. I felt as though in that in that actual draft, it was more it was better receivers didn't have at that at that spot. [00:04:40][12.3] Speaker 4: [00:04:41] That included Jerry, Judy and Ceedee LAMB at the same time. [00:04:44][3.4] Speaker 1: [00:04:44] A little bit, but Ceedee. [00:04:45][1.0] Speaker 3: [00:04:46] LAMB And anything. [00:04:46][0.5] Speaker 1: [00:04:47] Jon Gruden with you know his ties to Al Davis a guy get speed speed speed raiders ball right and that's that's but I. [00:04:53][6.8] Speaker 3: [00:04:54] Don't want to say I don't want to say what I want to say a speed leap. I don't want to say that. [00:04:58][4.7] Speaker 1: [00:04:58] I see where you're going with it. I actually I understand we get I just think this is a miss. It would have been your inaugural season in Las Vegas. The greatest of all time quarterback is coming your way. But I'm looking at it through the benefit of hindsight as well. Obviously, we know that coming off that 2019 season, Brady was struggling. He was starring show His Age. I believe Kyle likes to point out that he had quite the same hubris. Mitch Trubisky that year. [00:05:25][26.6] Speaker 4: [00:05:26] Yes, yes. Same same QB as Mitchell Trubisky in 2019. That's correct. [00:05:30][4.2] Speaker 1: [00:05:31] So it's easy to look at that 2019 version that entered free agency and think to yourself that that was a diminishing quarterback that was on the open market. And then he goes to Tampa and just happens to win that Super Bowl in a little bit of an odd year. Obviously, no fans in the stands. The Buccaneers had a lot more had a bit of more ready made team than a lot of the other candidates. [00:05:53][22.1] Speaker 3: [00:05:54] So there was just a quarterback over. [00:05:55][1.1] Speaker 1: [00:05:56] Yeah, they were a quarterback away. When you have Jameis Winston who had the 30, 30 season, the season before and they were still seven and nine kind of on the outskirts of the playoffs, not completely incompetent. They go out there again and get a B, fix their offensive line and their defense with the way their defense was built. It was a ready made pretender. The other team that was talked about a lot in that offseason was going to be the Los Angeles Chargers. The Los Angeles Chargers were apparently really close on game. Tom Brady and if nothing else do. If the Raiders knew that the Chargers were in on the bidding, they probably should have made a little bit more of a diligent effort to try and avoid him from going in the division. Luckily for their benefit, it didn't end up happening. And obviously, again, Tom Brady goes to Tampa Bay, the story goes on, is told personally that offseason, I didn't even think he was leaving New England but I did have the Raiders is like my second choice. If he did go to another team. [00:06:46][49.8] Speaker 3: [00:06:47] I didn't have him even leaving New England either. But just imagine if Tom Brady did leave the season and Josh McDaniels was, you know, as our head coach right now, I think that might be a little bit more different. And Tom Brady might reconsider coming to the Las Vegas Raiders. But I think Tom Brady respects Derek Carr enough to know, like, okay, they have their quarterback and want to revive another Tampa Bay Buccaneers, revive another franchise that I did before with with the new well New England has was good back then but it wasn't as great they were good they not there wasn't that great at them but you know Tom Brady just showed no matter what team he goes on, he could turn it around as a quarterback. [00:07:27][39.9] Speaker 1: [00:07:27] I guess when free agency and 2025 heads or 2030 or however Brady decides to stretch this one out, maybe he'll live his dream on the next gronkowski. We'll find out. They're heading to Las Vegas. Kyle, any closing thoughts before we close this one? [00:07:43][15.7] Speaker 4: [00:07:44] I'm still stuck on the fact that this is like the leading headline on every sports radio topic today when the Miami Dolphins literally got fined for tampering with Tom Brady and had a plan, not tampering. [00:07:55][11.0] Speaker 1: [00:07:56] It's Dana White. He's announced it's not tampering. [00:07:58][2.5] Speaker 4: [00:07:59] It's just no one cares that the Dolphins had a secret backdoor deal to have Tom Brady and Sean Payton become their coach and quarterback. And now Sean Payton and Bruce Arians are out of jobs and Tom Brady seems pretty unhappy in Tampa Bay and no one wants to talk about that. [00:08:13][13.5] Speaker 1: [00:08:13] I think it's because we have the shop, because we have the quote from the shop and everyone's looking at Derek Carr. [00:08:20][7.1] Speaker 4: [00:08:20] How is the sound bite LeBron James's podcast a bigger deal than actually getting hit with tampering charges. [00:08:26][6.1] Speaker 3: [00:08:27] Tom Bradley in that 2025 in the 2024 season, you never know. You might be a part of that helmet you got on their desk there and with the 49 is you never know. I'm just saying. [00:08:38][10.7] Speaker 1: [00:08:39] Well, we've gone back and forth certainly on a Trey Lance topic or two. So we'll see. Let's I'm hoping for the best hoping that the third overall pick in last year's draft can live up to expectations. Lord knows that the quarterbacks in that draft haven't otherwise. But Darren otherwise. Thank you for joining us, man. I got where can people find you these days? I know you kind of went through a little bit of rebranding recently.
