Watch Here - https://youtu.be/uVGWu2fbGXo Jimmy Garoppolo will be returning to the San Francisco 49ers. Per Adam Shefter: "Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers agreed to a restructured one-year contract that will keep the QB in San Francisco this season, per sources. The contract contains no-trade and no-tag clauses, assuring Garoppolo will remain in SF this season and have the freedom to leave in 2023. Comp update: Jimmy Garoppolo’s one-year restructured deal is worth $6.5 million in base, fully guaranteed, per sources. He has another total of $500k in roster bonuses. He also has playtime bonuses that can boost it another nearly $9M. So, one year, $7M, up to just shy of $16M. Jimmy Garoppolo’s no-trade clause just means that if any team wanted to trade for him, it would have to include him in the conversation and get his and the 49ers’ consent. So the no-trade clause allows Garoppolo and the 49ers to have 10 more weeks to see if a proper suitor arises" Does the Garoppolo return signal a bad omen for Trey Lance taking control of the team? San Francisco 49ers fan Ju-Ju discusses whether this move is a good or bad thing for the team in 2022. #49ers #JimmyGaroppolo #sanfrancisco49ers
Julian Martinez: [00:00:12] Well, guys, it's been a long off season of Jimmy Garoppolo rumors. And finally, we reach a conclusion. The Niners have agreed to a restructured contract with Jimmy G to keep him on the roster in 2023. This is per Adam Schefter. So I'm just to read off the specifics of the deal. Jimmy Garoppolo and the 40 niners agreed to a restructured one year contract that will keep the quarterback in San Francisco this season. Per sources, the contract contains a no trade clause and a no tag clause, assuring Jimmy Garoppolo will remain in San Francisco this season and have the freedom to leave in 2023. He goes on to say Comp update Jimmy Garoppolo's one year restructured deal is worth $6.5 million in baseball guarantee per sources. He has another total of 500 K in roster bonuses. He also has play time bonuses that can boost it another nearly 9 million. So one year 7 million up to just shy of 16 million. So this makes Jimmy Garoppolo the highest paid backup quarterback in the NFL. And I think this is an absolute win for the San Francisco 49ers. How many other teams can say they have a backup quarterback that if push came to shove, can lead them to an AFC championship game, can lead them to a Super Bowl? I know Jimmy Garoppolo has been to two of the last three Super Bowls. And while some think he's been an impediment on the Niners roster, I think the simple answer to that is look at the win loss ratio when he is not there. With that said, I do hope the Trey Lance is an improvement on Jimmy Garoppolo from a abilities standpoint. I'm hoping that Trey Lance can one day ascend and be a top five quarterback akin to a Josh Allen, a Patrick Mahomes, an Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady. He needs to be in that year to live up to his top three draft pick, Jimmy Garoppolo. What he is, he's ranged anywhere from being a top 15 to top 20 quarterback. And when he's been in that top 15 where he's performed up to that ability, sometimes I'll even give you a top ten performance. The Niners win a lot of football games and not many teams can say they have that on the roster. Now I understand the weird locker room dynamic it poses for Trey Lance as we try to progress into the 2022 NFL season, but is any weirder than what they faced last year? Is it that much more dramatic than what the locker room situation was a year ago when Trey Lance was coming in after the Niners had traded three draft picks to grab him? The Niners have said Trey Lance is the guy. And yes, I know that that kind of undermines that notion. But Trey Lance is going to get the first crack at this. If Trey Lance plays up to the ability that we've been presented that we believe that he has, then he should have no reason to fear Jimmy Garoppolo. But if he does struggle. If he gets injured. It's nice to know that the Niners could throw in a guy that threw for 3800 passing yards last year that for the majority of his career has a 2 to 1 touchdown interception ratio that has that throw to Deebo Samuel and the week 18 play in game in his back pocket. Now I know sometimes Jimmy Garoppolo isn't always pretty I know sometimes that could be a mess. But you're not asking him to play significant time for you. That's not the expectation here. You're expecting him to be available if called on, if the unthinkable happens, if an injury happens and I'll even say this, it's possible that he doesn't even perform for the 40 Niners this year, not just because Trey Lance plays up to his ability. But even though Adam Schefter noted that there is a no trade clause in his contract, if you told me that a contending team needed a quarterback this year due to some, as I mentioned, unthinkable injury you're in. Tell me they're not going to give you the San Francisco 40 niners that call and ask about jimmy garoppolo. The reason it was so hard to trade Jimmy Garoppolo in the off season was because of that $25 million contract. That's not an issue anymore. Now you have a $7 million contract with incentives. A team that's trying to push towards the playoffs but just had their starter go down with the injury would be much more willing to take on that contract than the 25 million. Because for as much as I love Jimmy Garoppolo and as much as I respect the talent of Jimmy Garoppolo, $25 million for the level of player that Jimmy is is a lot to take on. It's a very jarring contract for a lot of teams that are questioning how they're going to spend their money. If you told me, was that $18 million quarterback, you probably would've been moved around the draft. But that's just not the way the cookie crumbled in that situation. This just opens up so many possibilities for the Niners, whether he's on the roster, whether he plays for them, whether they have the opportunity to trade them during the season. And I just don't see how I could look at this and think that this is a loss for them in any other way. I don't see how any San Francisco 49ers fan or anyone who cheers for the Niners can look at this deal and think it's a bad deal because the only hangup on having Jimmy Garoppolo on the roster in my mind was the money. That's not the issue anymore. We restructured and Jimmy Garoppolo can be the backup quarterback for this team and he's mature enough more that we saw that he was mature enough to be the backup quarterback behind Tom Brady. We saw that he was mature enough to get through that quarterback competition and even though his wasn't much of a competition last year, so I don't see him having any qualms about this current situation. He has the support of the locker room if he does need a play, and I think that's a very powerful thing. The only thing that I question is how much leashes Kyle Shanahan going to give trey lance if the niners do start off slow. If I told you the niners were two and three, two and four struggling a little bit on offense, it's going to be hard to tell guys like George Kittle, Nick Bosa, how you shake. Deebo Samuel did not press the Jimmy Garoppolo button. That's going to be something to monitor. But again, I hope Trey Lance doesn't make us think about it. I hope Trey Lance lives up to being a top three pick. We don't have to think about it much other than if injury should strike, which as a 49%. I will tell you, injury has hit our team who lot I've seen to make games with Nick Mullens. C.J. battered this. This is an ideal situation if you don't me something bad happened to Trey. At least we can just slide in Garoppolo. I think that's a winning situation for the Niners, especially with their Super Bowl caliber roster that they do have. And we guys, maybe I'm wrong about this whole situation. Maybe you think this was a bad deal for the 49ers. Maybe you think they should've just cleared house and got rid of Jimmy Garoppolo to save themselves any unneeded drama. Drop below in the comments. If that's how you're feeling.
